These days, with every second person and their mother catching the flu, it is important to look after our selves and listen to our body. Often times the flu is a good indicator that maybe we need to slow down a bit, and it is a good excuse to do so. Perhaps even lie in bed for the day binge watching that Netflix series you’ve been meaning to look at, if that is a possibility for you.
To help us get through this sick season, I wanted to let you in on my trusty immune boosting tonic recipe.
To make this tonic you only need a few ingredients:
- Fresh grated turmeric- its better than dried- more anti-oxidants
- 4-5 Whole cardamom seeds
- Grated ginger, a thumb sized amount
- A cinnamon stick- you can reuse it a few times after drying it out.
Add the above ingredients to soy or almond milk, to make a creamy chai/turmeric latte type drink.
Alternatively to make it extra zingy and to pack a punch, add freshly squeezed lemon or orange juice.
To sweeten it you can add some honey, preferably Manuka for its immune boosting properties, or whatever other sweetener you would like to use. Some times I use coconut sugar, as it is low glycaemic index; this is great for diabetics as it doesn’t spike your blood sugar as much, and it is equally as tasty.
Finally, strain it before drinking and your done.
You can drink it cold or I recommend heating it up over the stove.
Preferably enjoy curled up under a blanket, with a hot water bottle and surrounded by plenty of people doting over you.
Let me know how you like it!
